Jon Coyne, assistant coach, is entering his first season with the Hawk baseball program. Coyne will work primarily with the Hawks infielders/outfielders and assist with the team's hitters while serving as one of the program's recruiters.

Coyne is no stranger to college level baseball as he comes to Howard College after spending two seasons as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Cisco College. During his time at Cisco he helped turn the Wranglers into one of the winningest Division I junior college programs in the nation (90 wins - average of 45 wins per season). Coyne helped send 37 players to Division 1 schools and had four players selected in the MLB draft.

In 2016 Coyne helped lead the Wranglers to a Region 5 championship and a trip to the Junior College World Series, finishing with a 48-16 record. While not recruiting, Coyne served as the team’s hitting coach where they finished in the top ten in eight offensive categories (Runs - 3rd, Hits - 1st, Doubles - 1st, Triples - 4th, RBI - 3rd, Avg. - 2nd, OBP - 7th, Slug% - 3rd). Coyne has also served as the pitching coach at Cisco and helped lead the Wranglers to the lowest ERA in Region 5.

Prior to Cisco, Coyne was the volunteer assistant at Wichita State University (WSU) for two seasons under college baseball hall of fame inductee Gene Stephenson. He helped with recruiting, hitting, and defense, and also served as the first base coach. WSU reached the Manhattan regional in his first season by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. During his time at WSU he helped 9 players get selected in the MLB draft, including first rounder Casey Gillespie.

Before coming to WSU, Coyne was the volunteer assistant coach at the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) for the fall 2012 semester.  He assisted with infielders, hitters and base runners and also served as the camp director.

Coyne served as the head coach for NTIS Team USA North Texas 13U from 2011-12 and was the assistant coach for NTIS Team USA North Texas 17U and 15U.

From 2010-12, Coyne coached with the Dallas Tigers Select baseball team and in the summer of 2011, Coyne coached the Coppell Copperheads to the Texas Collegiate League championship.

Coyne’s collegiate career in baseball includes one year with UTPA as a first baseman and two years at El Paso Community College where he was named to the all-conference team.

Coyne graduated from North Texas University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in general studies.
