Scott Raines enters his first year as the head coach of the Howard College Men's Basketball program. Raines is entering his ninth year with Howard College, having served in several different roles, from assistant coach with the men's basketball program, to Fitness Center director, to Dean of Students, and most recently District Registrar. He has previous collegiate coaching stops at Moberly Area Community College, Midland College, University of Oklahoma (Men and Women), Alderson Broaddus College and Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts.

The Hawks have been led the previous nine years by Mark Adams, who left for a position with the men's basketball program at Texas Tech University. Adams led the Hawks to the 2010 National Championship along with 2006 and 2013 trips to the national tournament. Prior to Coach Adams arrival, it had been 38 years since the Hawks had played in the national tournament. Adams tenure included three seasons of 30 wins or more and two NJCAA national players of the year, Charles Burgess in 2006 and Jae Crowder (currently with the Dallas Mavericks) in 2010.

Coach Raines and the Hawks hope to continue the winning tradition that Coach Adams and his predecessors have established. The 2013-14 season should be interesting with a brand new coaching staff and only one player returning who has ever worn a Howard College uniform. Look for the Hawks to continue to play tough defense and remain competitive in the always competitive Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC).

Raines is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts in Edmond, Oklahoma. He played collegiately at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO and Oklahoma Christian. He is married to Kelly Raines (Howard College Softball Coach) and they have a six year old named Austen.
