Scott Raines enters his third year as the head coach of the Howard College Men's Basketball program. Raines is entering his eleventh year with Howard College, having served in several different roles, from assistant coach with the men's basketball program, to Fitness Center director, to Dean of Students, and most recently District Registrar. He has previous collegiate coaching stops at Moberly Area Community College, Midland College, University of Oklahoma(Men and Women), Alderson Broaddus College and Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts. 

The Hawks are coming off a 24-8(13-3 conference/Co-champs) season and a finals appearance in the Region V tournament in Brownwood, TX. The Hawks knocked off Weatherford College and No. 3 ranked Hill College  to advance in the region tournament before falling to South Plains College in the championship.

Howard College placed Rob Gray and Sam Finley on the first team all-conference in 2014-15. Also, Lis Shoshi was named the conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Six members of the 2014-15 Howard College Hawks have moved on to universities:

  • Niels Bunschoten- Indiana State University
  • Travis Charles- University of Albany
  • Sam Finley- University of Mississippi (Ole’ Miss)
  • Rob Gray- University of Houston
  • Jose Libanio- Southeastern Oklahoma State University
  • Lis Shoshi- University of Arkansas-Little Rock

The Hawks were led the previous nine years by Mark Adams, currently an assistant at Arkansas-Little Rock. Adams led the Hawks to the 2010 National Championshhip along with 2006 and 2013 trips to the national tournament.  Adams tenure included three seasons of 30 wins or more and two NJCAA national players of the year, Charles Burgess in 2006 and Jae Crowder(currently with the Boston Celtics) in 2010.

Raines is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts in Edmond, Oklahoma. He played collegiately at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado and Oklahoma Christian. He is married to Kelly Raines (Howard College Softball Coach) and they have a eight year old son, Austen.
