Assistant Coach Pat Leach

Pat LeachPat Leach is entering his first year as the pitching coach for the Howard Hawks.  He comes to Howard with nearly a decade of collegiate coaching experience.  Leach began his coaching career as a 5th year student assistant coach for New Mexico State University.  He served as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Daytona Beach Community College from 2001-2005.  While at Daytona, he helped guide the team to two consecutive conference championships and top 10 state rankings 3 of the 4 years reaching #1 in 2003.  

Leach was an Assistant Coach at Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas in 2006 leading the team to hold national rankings and produce one of the most successful seasons in 50 years.  He has coaching experience at the division one level as a Volunteer Assistant at both Stetson University in DeLand, FL and most recently at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over the 9 years of coaching college and amateur baseball, giving private lessons and running baseball camps, he has coached and or recruited dozens of players that are now professional baseball players.

Leach has been affiliated with a number of prestigious summer leagues both as a head coach and pitching coach.  He served as a pitching coach in the Alaskan Collegiate Baseball League in 2003 and has been head coach in 2006, 2007 and pitching coach in 2009 for the DBat Mustangs.  In each of the three summers he has served as a coach with DBat, he has led the team to the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, New Mexico.  He helped pioneer the start of the Florida Collegiate Summer League in 2004-05 and served 2 seasons as General Manager and Head Coach for the Daytona Beach Barracudas.  

As a player, Leach received a number of honors.  Playing for Rider High School in Wichita Falls, TX, Leach received All Conference 1994, District 6-5 MVP 1995, Texas High School Coaches Association All State 1B 1995.  At North Central Texas Community College he was awarded the Texas/New Mexico All Star Pitcher/ 1B 1996, 1st Team All Conference P 1997 and 1st Team DH 1997.  While at New Mexico State University he earned NMSU Academic Athletic Wall of Honor 1998-2000 and All Big West Pitcher of the Week March 2000.   

Leach resides in Big Spring, Texas and is excited to marry his fiancée Lindsay in December 2010.
