Women’s Basketball Coach, John Ishee’s review of the March 27th game against South Plains.
The Lady Hawks of Howard squared off with # 7 Nationally ranked and 1st place in the WJCAC South Plains Lady Texans on Saturday afternoon. In a game that was much closer than the final score indicates the Lady Hawks fell 68-47. The game was 13-12 at the end of 1 quarter and 27-25 at the half. The Lady Hawks having defeated the Lady Texans a few weeks back in overtime knew that they would get the visitor’s best effort and they would have to get off to a quick start and that they did leading early leading 10-6. The strong offensive play of Freshman Charnay Robinson paced the home-standing Lady Hawks early on and solid team defense and rebounding of Kayla Massop and good guard play from Kiara Green aide the Hawks. The 3rd quarter was back and forth as well, Sumaiyah Abdur Rahim and Robinson kept the Lady Hawks in the game. The 3rd Quarter end with The Lady Hawks trailing 47-39. The Hawks got within 6 twice but could get no closer. Sumiayah Abdur Rahim was the game’s high scorer with 18 points, Charnay Robinson chipped in with 14. Kayla Massop’s 10 rebounds paced the home teaming the stellar inside play of Debora Reis 15 pts and 18 rebounds proved to be too much. South Plains wins this one and in all likelihood will be the # 1 seed in the Region 5 tournament in two weeks. The Lady Hawks will travel to Snyder Texas and Battle with Western Texas on Monday before honoring its Sophomores next Thursday at Home vs. Frank Phillips College
