Women’s Basketball Coach, John Ishee’s review of the March 8th game against South Plains.
The Lady Hawks women’s Basketball team pulled off a tremendous team victory over # 5 Nationally ranked and 1st place South Plains in the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum 69-61 on Monday night. The game was highly intense and competitive throughout. There were 3 ties and 5 lead changes. The Lady Texans led 8-5 after one period and 27-23 at the half. The game ebbed and flowed back and forth throughout the 3rd and 4 th quarter, the Lady Hawks were clinging to a 3 point lead when Serena Waters hit an overtime tying 3 with about 4 seconds left. The Lady Texans scored on the 1st possession of the Overtime period to take its last Lead 60-58. The Lady Hawks owned the final 4:00 of the Ot going on a 11-2 run aided by clutch Free throw shooting from Sumiyah Abdur Rahim Claudia Hernandez Mikayla Malik and Kayla Massop. The shocking win over the Nations # 5 Team comes on the Heels of an earlier season home Overtime loss to Nationally Ranked Midland College. The Lady Hawks Had balanced scoring with 3 players scoring in double figures . Led by the 5/9 3 point Shooting of Sophomore Tatym Barnes 18 points , 16 points from Sumiyah Abdur Rahim and 16 points and 7 Rebounds from Kayla Massop. The Lady Hawks travel to Clarendon for a conference game on Thursday before finishing the week out at home for a Saturday afternoon 2 pm tip vs. Frank Phillips College.
