Junsie Cotten begins his second season as assistant coach for Scott Raines at Howard College.  A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Cotten brings over twenty years of coaching experience both as an assistant and head coach.  Prior to Howard, Cotten and Raines worked together at Midland College (1999-2001) guiding the Chaparrals to a two year record of 55-15 while capturing a WJCAC Championship, a Region V title, and finishing 6th at the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Cotten, a former assistant at the University of Texas at El Paso, has also been the head coach at Lincoln Trail College (2005-2010), and most recently at Panola College (2010-2015) in Carthage, Texas.  In his second year at Lincoln Trail, Cotten led the Statesmen to the 2007 Region 24 Championship.

Cotten began his coaching career as a student assistant in 1994 at Utah State under Larry Eustachy, where he helped the Aggies post a 21-8 record and win the Big West Conference Championship.

Collegiately, Cotten played his first two years (1990-1992) at the College of Eastern Utah. He averaged a conference best 21.1 points per game as a sophomore earning First Team All-League and All-Region honors.  He played his final two years at Utah State University in Logan, Utah.

Coach Cotten comes to Howard College after serving as a special needs teacher in the Chapel Hill–Carrboro City School system.
