The Western Junior College Athletic Conference released its list of women’s basketball post-season honors and all-conference teams, and being tabbed to the Honorable Mention team was Howard College Freshman guard Kaki Simpson.

Simpson earned this honor after averaging 13.7 points and 4 rebounds during the 2017-18 regular season. The Amarillo, Texas native also dished out 58 assists and came away with 53 steals in leading Howard to a 15-15 overall record within the WJCAC. Simpson’s .80 free-throw percentage (80-100) was top in the league, while her 35 minutes per game ranked her among all WJCAC players.

Simpson has started and played in all 30 games this season, and this season the team saw increases in production in close to every category. Simpson hit double digits in scoring 24 times and recorded her first 27-point game on Dec. 8 vs. Seminole State. Simpson buried 7-of-10 3-pointers in a 11 point win (59-70) over the Belles.

“We had to play Kaki out of her normal position this year but she did a great job taking on the task we gave her,” said head coach Earl Diddle, “and this challenge will help her development . She also did a wonderful job scoring the ball for us this season.”
