Bio
Preston Ingram enters his first season as Associate Head Coach at Howard College after building a
distinguished 22-year coaching career spanning NCAA Division II, NAIA, elite prep basketball, and
nationally recognized AAU programs. A proven program builder and offensive strategist, Ingram
brings more than 105 career victories as a collegiate head coach along with an extensive
background in player development, recruiting, and championship-level success.
Most recently, Ingram served as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Maryville University, where
he directed all aspects of the nationally competitive NCAA Division II program. Under his
leadership, Maryville ranked among the nation's leaders in multiple offensive categories while
emphasizing culture development, player retention, and recruiting excellence.
Before Maryville, Ingram spent five successful seasons as head coach at Missouri Baptist
University, compiling a 94-52 record. He guided the Spartans to the 2022 American Midwest
Conference Tournament Championship—the program's first since 2005—and a berth in the NAIA
National Tournament after a 26-6 season. Ingram was named AMC Coach of the Year while
leading the Spartans to back-to-back regular season titles and a 47-13 conference record over his
final four seasons. During his tenure, Missouri Baptist produced 21 All-AMC selections, five
All-Defensive Team honorees, one Freshman of the Year, numerous Academic All-Conference
selections, NAIA All-American John Yaeger, and 2023 AMC Player of the Year and NAIA
All-American Brendon Hardy.
His collegiate coaching experience also includes assistant coaching positions at Pittsburg State,
Angelo State, Avila, and Evangel University. At Pittsburg State, he helped lead the Gorillas to the
program's first MIAA Tournament Championship while coaching one of the league's top defensive
teams. At Angelo State, he oversaw guard development, scouting, defense, and strength and
conditioning while helping recruit Division I transfer Joshua Boutte and standout junior college
player Davion Cole Johnson.
Ingram began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, Evangel University, where he spent
six seasons under NAIA Hall of Fame coach Steve Jenkins. The Crusaders recorded five
consecutive 20-win seasons and four NAIA National Tournament appearances during his tenure.
He later spent three seasons at Avila University, helping recruit and coach the program's first NAIA
All-American, Sedrick Johnson.
Beyond the college ranks, Ingram built an outstanding reputation coaching with Springfield Rockets
and nationally renowned MOKAN Elite in the Nike EYBL. He worked with future NBA players Willie
Cauley-Stein, Anthony Tolliver, Semi Ojeleye, and Willie Reed while helping more than 55 players
earn college basketball scholarships. Ingram also coached at nationally recognized prep basketball
powers IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and Combine Academy in North Carolina, continuing
his work developing elite student-athletes preparing for college and professional basketball.
As a player at Evangel, Ingram was a member of the 2001-02 NAIA Division II National
Championship team that finished 35-1 and ranked No. 1 in the nation throughout the season. He
later served as team captain and earned the program's Defensive Player of the Year award as a
senior.
A native of Springfield, Missouri, Ingram earned his bachelor's degree in Marketing and
Management from Evangel University and a master's degree in Human, Health, Performance and
Recreation from Pittsburg State University. Preston and his wife, Shanna, have two children, Mya
and Sebastian.
