Howard College's Jeryn Ellerd Qualifies for Second Straight College National Finals Rodeo
Howard College cowboy Jeryn Ellerd has once again proven himself among the elite in collegiate rodeo, qualifying for the 2025 College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming. This marks his second consecutive CNFR appearance, a testament to his consistency and dedication in the arena.
A native of Levelland, Texas, Ellerd is completing his second year at Howard College, where he majored in education. He plans to transfer to Texas Tech University next year, continuing his rodeo career both professionally and at the collegiate level.
Ellerd's 2024–25 season has been marked by several notable achievements:
- 2024 Eastern New Mexico University Champion Heeler
- 2024 Spicer Gripp Junior Open Champion Heeler
- 2024 Cooks College Shootout Reserve Champion Heeler
- 2024 Trinity Valley Expo Champion Header
- 2024–25 Southwest Region Reserve Champion Heeler
His performance in the Southwest Region standings solidified his qualification for the CNFR, reflecting his skill and determination throughout the season.
Coach Sharp, who has known Ellerd since their shared roots in Levelland, Texas, praised his growth:
"I have known Jeryn my whole life since we both come from Levelland, TX. I have seen Jeryn Ellerd progress in his roping and horsemanship over the years, and he has really started to figure out how to win and be successful at a high level since he came to Howard College. A lot of this progression is due to drive and passion to get better at his sport. I think he is destined to do great things, and he will be one of those students that we are proud to represent the Howard College brand."
