Howard College Softball Victorious at Home in Weekend Action
A four-game weekend at home saw the Hawks walk away with the final win of the weekend over Vernon College.
Friday afternoon the Lady Hawks went head-to-head with San Jacinto-South where the Rangers ended up on top after a hard fought 10-inning Game 1 with a two-run victory. The visitors took both games in Day 1.
Vernon College also made their way to Big Spring for a pair of games Saturday afternoon. The first game of the day went to VC with a couple runs up on the Lady Hawks, but the weekend finale belonged to the red and black, seeing Howard College Softball earn their first win of the season, 5-4 over Vernon College.
In the victory over VC, the Lady Hawks had a big five-run fifth inning that overpowered the visitors, ending the afternoon finale with five runs on 11 hits.
Celest Flores led the team offensive with a pair of RBI and a double, going two for three at the plate.
Jolee Limon, Bianca Rijiborz and Gabby Gonzales also added to the RBI total for the Lady Hawks.
Brynn Rodgers and Janelle Armadillo also had doubles for Howard College.
Ending the day with a hit for the Lady Hawks was Rodgers, Armadillo (2), Savannah Villareal, Arayah Barrera, Limon, Rijiborz (2), Flores (2), and Gonzales.
Rodgers, Villereal, Limon, Rijiborz and Isabella Farinha all fed into the double-play action for the Lady Hawks.
Lynette Hernandez (W, 1-0) earned the first win of the season after 7.0 innings on the mound, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits, walking one and striking one out.
The Hawks will be back in action Tuesday, Feb. 24, for a doubleheader with Weatherford College in Big Spring, Texas, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
