Howard College Lady Hawks Continue Win Streak with Road Victory Over Frank Phillips

The Lady Hawks pulled off another road win Thursday night in Borger over Frank Phillips with a 66-56 final. 

The first quarter saw the red and black with a 22-16 lead over the home team. In the second stanza the Lady Plainsmen outscored the visitors by two points, totaling 19 points, still seeing the Lady Hawks lead 39-35. In the third frame, the home team totaled another 11 points to the Lady Hawks 11. The final quarter saw Howard College put up another 18 points, holding the Lady Plainsmen to 10 points for a 66-56 final. 

"Playing on the road is always challenging. We did not shoot the ball well from the field, but we made 21-25 free-throws which helped, and we didn't have a lot of turnovers'', stated Head Women's Basketball Coach Al Davis. 

 Kailyn Berry was the front runner for the Lady Hawks with 19 points, going 4-7 from the three and 3-4 from the line, with four rebounds. 

 "It was a battle from start to finish I'm proud of the team for coming out on top and I'm proud of my teammates for persevering down the stretch and helping us get a big win", commented Berry. 

Makayla Ellison and Abrianna Lawrence each tacked on 12 points for the red and black. Ellison lead the team in rebounds with 10, finishing the evening 5-7 from the line with six points totaled from the field and a three pointer to round out her scoring efforts. Lawrence was a perfect 4-4 from the line, with two three pointers made and three shots made from the field. Lawrence also had two blocks and nine rebounds. 

"We have a bye coming up which is much needed but I'm glad we got the win. We have a week to get ready for a good New Mexico Junior College team who will be ready to play us at their place", stated Davis. 

 The win over the Lady Plainsmen sees the Lady Hawks at 18-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play. 

 Thursday, Feb. 12 will see the Lady Hawks back in action on the road to Hobbs, New Mexico, to take on New Mexico Junior College at 6:45 p.m. CST.
