Lady Hawks Basketball Earns 20th Win of the Season with Giant Victory Over Western Texas

The ladies in red and black had a monster of a win over the Westerners Thursday night after a 96-54 final landed in favor of the Lady Hawks.
In the opening frame, the Lady Hawks held the Westerners to nine points while the home team compiled 25. The second stanza followed, seeing the red and black maintain control with adding on another 30 points to the visitors 15, for a 55-24 lead at the half. With the third quarter came another 20 points for Howard College while Western Texas added 19 but the final frame sealed the deal with a 21-11 ratio in favor of the Lady Hawks, ending in a 42-point win for Howard College.
"Very happy with our win last night. We were able to build a big lead and that gave the opportunity for some players who don't get to play get on the floor'', stated Head Coach Al Davis.
Makayla Ellison had another big night with 24 points, going 10-13 from the field, 2-3 from the three and 50% from the line. Ellison also had six rebounds, seven assists, one steal and one blocked shot.
Abrianna Lawrence was another big contributor offensively for the lady Hawks with 22 points after finishing 8-10 from the field and 6-8 from the three. Lawrence had four assists, six steal and one blocked shot.
Kailyn Berry and Talia Vea were big defensive forces for the Lady Hawks with Vea totaling three blocked shots and Berry leading the rebounding efforts with 11 defensive rebounds and 12 total rebounds.
Berry also contributed on offense with 17 points after going 6-12 from the field, 4-9 from the three and 1-2 from the line.
"We shot the ball well last night and didn't have a lot of turnovers. We have a big game coming up against Odessa on Monday so we have to have two good days of practice because they will be ready to play and it will be a big game'', commented Davis.
Collectively, the Lady Hawks were 50% from the field, 43.9% from the three and 63.6% from the line with seven blocked shots, 12 steals and 21 assists.
The ladies in red and black will take on Odessa College next here in Big Spring, TX, on Monday evening at 5:45 p.m.
