The Hawks hosted Frank Phillips to open up conference action and ended the evening with a 69-50 final over the visitors.
In the first half, the red and black totaled 36 points against Frank Phillips' 29. In the first half, Dace Pleasant led the scoring efforts for the Hawks with 12 points after going 3-6 from the field, 2-5 from the three and 4-4 form the line.
Terry Copeland wasn't far behind with 11 points, going 4-5 from the field, 1-1 from the three and 2-5 from the line with one steal and one blocked shot.
In the second half, the red and black tallied another 33 points while Frank Phillips added 21.
Daniel Culberson came alive in the second half with 14 points, going 5-9 from the field and 3-5 from the line with one three-pointer made and a steal.
Copeland tacked on another seven rebounds and seven points with three successful shots from the field and one from the free throw line.
Collectively, the red and black went 41.5% from the field, 31.8% from the three and 60% from the charity stripe with eight steals and three blocked shots.
The Hawks will be back in action on the road Thursday, January 8, to take on New Mexico Military Institute for the second game of conference play at 7:30 p.m.
