Howard College Men’s Basketball Produces Big 72-47 Road Win Over Western Texas

The Howard College Hawks totaled a 72-47 victory over the Westerners of Western Texas in Snyder, Texas, Monday evening.

"I thought we had great focus and approach to the game. It's hard to win on the road, and we had multiple guys really step up. We defended well and really shared the ball on offense," stated Head Men's Basketball Coach Kyle Cooper.

Kuai Deng and Daniel Culberson led the scoring efforts for the Hawks with 15 points each.

Deng went 7-11 from the field, 1-2 from the three and contributed four rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots for the red and black.

Culberson finished the evening 6-11 from the field and 3-7 from the three. The sophomore also totaled eight rebounds, five assists and one steal.

Also bringing in double digits for the Hawks, Brandon Ivery totaled 12 points after shooting 50% from the field and the three. Ivery also had four rebounds and one blocked shot.

"The tough thing about this league is that every night is a different challenge from a high-level team. We need to fix some of our mistakes and get ready for another tough one on Thursday," added Cooper.

The win over Western Texas earned the Hawks the top spot in the WJCAC and No. 2 in all off NJCAA D1 Basketball. The red and black are the only undefeated team in conference play at 4-0 and hold an overall record of 17-1.

Next, the Howard College Hawks will face Odessa College on the road Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
