Hawks Surpass 20 Wins After Road Victory Over Frank Phillips Thursday Night

Howard College Men's Basketball secured their 21st win of the season over Frank Phillips with a 70-49 final in Thursday night's game in Borger. 

A big opening half for the red and black saw a 43-16 lead for the Hawks at the half. The home team added another 33 points in the second half while the Hawks put up 27, closing out the night with a 70-49 victory for Howard College. 

Brandon Ivery led the scoring efforts for the Hawks with 16 on the evening, going 6-9 from the field, 50% from the three and 3-5 from the line. Ivery also had three rebounds and one steal. 

Victor Yimga Moukouri was also a big contributor for the Hawks with 14 points at 5-10 from the field, 3-4 from the three and 1-1 from the line. The freshman for the red and black also had four rebounds and one steal. 

"Another victory today, it's been nice to continue to show what we are capable of every week and rise in power to be able to achieve our goals! The whole team improving allowed us to perform tonight. Proud of the guys! Let's stack days and focus on the next one on Monday'', commented Moukouri.

Oskar Stumer contributed nine rebounds and two blocks, leading the Hawks in both categories. 

Kuai Deng also hit double digits with 10 points, finishing the night 4-8 from the field and 2-3 from the line. Deng totaled three rebounds and one block.

"I thought we were very focused from the start and guarded very well. We had a lot of different guys step up and it was a balanced team win. Very happy with our mental approach and attention to detail in particular in the first half", stated Head Men's Basketball Coach Kyle Cooper. 

The win over the Plainsmen brings the red and black to 21-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play, two wins ahead of the second and third place teams. The Hawks remain No.2 in the nation.

Next up for Howard College Men's Basketball is a Monday evening matchup with New Mexico Military Institute at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 in Big Spring, Texas.
